It’s not been the easiest of few weeks for Barcelona, although that was somewhat alleviated on Monday night when they defeated Real Sociedad 2-0 to go back into second place in the La Liga table. Xavi Hernandez has now been handed further good news, with the return to light training of Alejandro Balde.

Balde suffered a serious hamstring injury back in January during the Copa del Rey quarter-final defeat to Athletic Club, which required him to undergo surgery to rectify the issue. He’s been in recovery ever since, and on Tuesday, he made his first appearance on the grass – a significant milestone.

Barcelona have struggled down their left-hand side in Balde’s absence, with Joao Cancelo having made a number of high-profile errors over the last few months. His return is a welcome one, although he is not expected to feature between now and the end of the season, with no chances being taken with his recovery.
