It’s set to be an unusually busy summer at Athletic Club this summer, with a number of incomings and outgoings already confirmed. President Jon Uriarte commented last summer that they had tried to sign Aymeric Laporte from Manchester City, but it looks like they will try again.

As per Relevo, Athletic are looking to be Laporte’s next destination after the 29-year-old expressed his disillusionment with the standards in Saudi Arabia, having joined Al-Nassr last summer. Los Leones are in search of an experienced central defender to pair alongside Dani Vivian, but Laporte would need to find a mutual agreeement with Al-Nassr to terminate his deal after just a year, something they are reportedly open to.

This comes after they wrapped up the signing of former Real Sociedad right-back Andoni Gorosabel, who has played well at Alaves this season, as confirmed by the same outlet. He is out of contract, and the 27-year-old will add some fresh legs to the right-side, currently occupied by Oscar de Marcos and Inigo Lekue, both of whom are into their thirties.

This comes after Athletic already confirmed the addition of Alvaro Djalo from Braga, who is due to become their third-most expensive signing in their history. Going the other way are captain Iker Muniain and Raul Garcia, who are both out of contract.
