Jalen Brunson Breaks Incredible New York Knicks Record As He Leads Team to a Strong Game 4 Win
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Everything’s going right for the New York Knicks, and they have Jalen Brunson to thank for that.

The guard has done nothing but play incredible basketball since signing in 2023, and they’re now on the cusp of making back-to-back Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. His play for the Knickerbockers has been so good that fans even made the trip to Wells Fargo Center to make the game as uncomfortable for the home team as possible.

However, his brilliant Game 4 heroics aren’t limited to helping the team win. His stellar showing against Joel Embiid and his Sixers allowed him to beat a franchise record that not even the likes of Patrick Ewing and Carmelo Anthony was able to take down.

Jalen Brunson’s 47 beats Bernard King’s New York Knicks playoff scoring record

The Spun’s Daniel Bates reported that the 6’2″ guard broke Bernard King’s 40-year playoff scoring record after dumping 47 points on a hapless Sixers defense that couldn’t do anything to contain him:

On Sunday the Knicks point guard set a new franchise record for most points in a playoff game by pouring in 47 in the team’s Game 4 win over the Sixers. The previous record was 46 points which was held by the great Bernard King for 40 years.

King was one of the Knicks’ most prolific scorers in the 80s. The fact that players like Patrick Ewing, Stephon Marbury, and Carmelo Anthony couldn’t take down King’s postseason record shows how difficult it is to beat playoff-caliber defenses that make specific game plans to stop the best player.

Brunson has been nothing short of phenomenal for the Knicks ever since he was acquired from the Dallas Mavericks. He’s averaged 28.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 6.7 assists in the regular season on 47.9/40.1/84.7% shooting.

With the Knicks now only one game away from winning their first series, Brunson and the rest of the team will be eager to close out the series and prepare for the next round. Hopefully, they don’t buckle under pressure and allow their opponents a way back into the series.
