EXCLUSIVE: Lucero Acosta Out Of Combate Global’s May 11 Main Event, 9-Time Kickboxing Champ Jumps In As Replacement

After setting up a fascinating main event matchup for May between fan-favorite Lucero Acosta and Bellator veteran Alejandra Lara, Combate Global lost one-half of their upcoming headliner and has gotten a nine-time kickboxing champion to fill the void.

Last month, Combate Global announced that Lucero Acosta (5-2) had booked her first fight in 2024 as she looked to extend her win streak to four straight. What made the news fascinating is that in her return she would face former Bellator flyweight title challenger Alejandra Lara (9-7) in a win-or-go-elsewhere opportunity in Miami.

Unfortunately, on Tuesday the promotion revealed that “La Loba” suffered a meniscus injury that has forced her out of the May 11 bout. However, instead of dropping Lara from the card, they were able to find a replacement who is also an MMA prospect on the rise. Multi-time kickboxing champion Gisela “La Emperatriz” Luna will serve as “Azul’s” new opponent in the main event of the Fuse card.

Luna (5-1 MMA) will be making her Combate Global and US MMA debut after an extensive kickboxing career. The native of Buenos Aires, Argentina has won nine regional kickboxing championships, including four South American and five Argentinian national titles during a career that saw her tally a 36-3-1 record. She has also scored finishes in four of her five cage fights.

In the report from March, promotion Vice President Mike Afromowitz revealed to Sportsnaut that Lara will be competing on a one-fight prove-it deal in her promotional debut and first fight in over a year.

A lot will be on the line for both women when they step inside La Jaula in a couple of weeks. The card will begin at 9:30 PM ET/6:30 PM PT on Fuse and Univision (Spanish-language broadcast).
