Matt Marton-USA TODAY Sports

Marquee Sports Network has a recent graduate on their payroll. The current MSN analyst and former Chicago Cubs center fielder, Dexter Fowler, graduated from Penn State over the weekend.

Fowler took classes online through the Penn State World Campus to complete his degree. Fowler earned a Bachelor of Science in Organizational and Professional Communication from the Big Ten university.

After turning pro at 18, Fowler promised his parents he would return to school and get an education, per the release. Now, Fowler is also setting an example for his own family by going back to school and earning a degree years after turning pro.

In addition, Fowler served as the student marshal for the ceremony on Saturday, May 4. With the rest of Penn State's 2024 class, Fowler took the stage and received his degree.

Fowler had the following to say regarding his graduation with his degree:

"Graduating from Penn State is not just an achievement, it's the start of a new chapter," said Dexter Fowler. "Baseball has always been just the beginning for me, and earning my degree was a promise I made to my family that I am proud to fulfill. Armed with the knowledge, skills, and experience my degree has given me, I’m looking forward to continuing to grow as a business owner, broadcaster, and storyteller."

Fowler will continue to serve as an analyst on Marquee Sports Network after his time with the Cubs. Fowler only spent two seasons in Chicago, but had a huge impact as the lead-off man and everyday center fielder.

In his two seasons with the Cubs, Fowler slashed .261/.367/.427 with 30 home runs, 54 doubles, 15 triples, 94 RBI, and 186 runs scored in 281 games. Fowler earned his lone All-Star appearance in 2016 and was a member of the 2016 World Series team.

Fowler officially retired from baseball prior to the 2023 season.
