Saskatchewan Roughriders Agreed to Terms with DL Malik Carney, LB Adam Auclair

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have focused on defense early in free agency, and they continued that trend on Wednesday and Thursday. 3DownNation’s Justin Dunk and JC Abbott reported that Saskatchewan agreed to terms with defensive lineman Malik Carney and linebacker Adam Auclair.

Carney had the best season of his three-year career with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2023, producing a career-high 52 tackles and adding five sacks, one interception and one forced fumble in 17 games. His 41-game career numbers include 86 total tackles, 13 sacks, one interception and two forced fumbles.

Auclair is also coming off a career-season for himself, contributing 77 tackles, one sack, one interception and one forced fumble last year for the Ottawa Redblacks. The Saint George, Quebec native was a former first-round draft pick of the Redblacks in 2020, and he has racked up 149 total tackles, two sacks, one interception, and two forced fumbles in 42 career games.

The Roughriders have stayed active throughout the week, also bringing in running back A.J. Ouellette, linebacker Jameer Thurman, offensive tackle Jermarcus Hardrick and defensive back Jalon Edwards-Cooper. With the moves, Riders coach Corey Mace has made a bold statement about his focus on building the defense up to be a juggernaut in 2024.

CFL Players won’t be able to sign contracts officially until Feb. 13 when free agency begins.
